Reflection

Growing in grace and virtues through St. Bonaventure's Vietnamese Bilingual Faith Formation Program.

St. Bonaventure in the late 70's opened its arms to the Vietnamese Refugees seeking a new home after the end of the Vietnam War. My family fled Vietnam by boat, and we are thankful for the outpouring of love and assistance from this community from the very beginning of our new life in America.

I began taking all my Religious Education classes here, with the Lovers of the Holy Cross Sisters. I received my First Reconciliation, my First Holy Communion, and my Confirmation through this program.  Immediately after Confirmation, I started to follow the sisters around as their aide. I assisted them in the classrooms until I left for college.

My husband and I were married years later at the church, and all five of our children were baptized here.  As my eldest started to enter the Vietnamese Bilingual Religious Education Program (now is called Vietnamese Bilingual Faith Formation), I began to teach again, with this program.  Each year, I have the honor of preparing young children for the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Communion.

As a student who grew up within this program, as a mother, and as a Catechist teaching in the program, I can honestly attest to the strong faith formation and the spiritual richness I received here. I am thankful I was given the chance to be educated here, and I hope that I can continue to help children entrusted to my care, to grow in grace and virtues.  I am humbled to be used as God's instrument at St. Bonaventure's Vietnamese Bilingual Faith Formation Program.
